How We Identify Influencers in Your Organization

Identifying influencers within an organization is crucial for effective organizational network analysis (ONA) and driving meaningful change. Influencers play a vital role in shaping culture, communication, and collaboration.

The first step in identifying these key individuals is to understand their intended role. Will they spearhead a technology change program, bridge communication gaps between executives and junior staff, or drive cultural change? The intended use of these influencers informs how they are identified and what signals are emphasized, such as:

Network Centrality

Examining the number of connections or nominations an individual has within the network.

Network Position

Assessing roles like bridging or brokerage to understand an individual’s influence.

Energy

Evaluating if individuals are perceived as sources of energy that inspire and motivate others.

Trust and Approachability

Determining if others view these individuals as trustworthy and approachable.

Organization Design and Restructuring

Leveraging the informal network to influence and optimize the formal structure.
Workshops and one-on-one discussions with identified influencers often form a critical part of the process. The network diagrams created through ONA can then serve as powerful tools for promoting change—whether that's fostering better relationships between teams or enhancing internal and external collaboration.

Driving Organizational Change through ONA

Identifying influencers and the kinds of change management applications detailed above are by no means the only professional services projects that we assist with, other examples include:

Driving Innovation

Research shows that network structures significantly impact an organization's ability to innovate.

What ONA tools do you use?

Polinode is a global leader in the development of organizational network analysis tools - we use our own SaaS platform that includes both a powerful network visualization tool (with a large number of network metrics) as well our integrated relationship-based survey tool that is designed for running Active Organizational Network Analysis.

We don't limit ourselves to our own tools though when providing ONA consulting services. We also often use Python libraries for advanced analysis and machine learning tools as well.

Do you work with People Analytics teams?

Absolutely! We frequently work with People Analytics teams from both large and small companies to assist them with the analysis of formal and informal networks. Often we work as thought partners with People Analytics teams to help them make use of advanced network analysis tools as well as to ask the right questions of the data that they may already have or that we help them collect.

Do you work with consulting organizations?

Yes, we do! We work with around 30 consulting organizations across the globe. For some of these consultants, we supply only our ONA software. For others, we provide advanced analysis and partner deeply with them on data collection and the delivery of ONA services to their end-user organizations.

There is a spectrum of options when it comes to partnering with consulting organizations. We always take the time to listen to your needs, and often, our partnership evolves over time to suit those changing requirements.

What are the next steps if I'm interested in working with you on an organizational network analysis?

The first step is to get in touch with us and request a demo. That way we can show you the Polinode platform but also listen to what your priorities are and have a discussion about how we may be able to help you achieve them.
